Prism Charlotte
a place for LGBTQ adults, ages 18-30, in Charlotte
Activism and Advocacy
At Prism, we understand that LGBTQ people are not just LGBTQ. Often times, we are people of different races, religions, socioeconomic statuses, immigration status, and more. We strive not only to be intersectional in our space but to also participate in activism that occurs throughout the community. Prism has participated in many rallies, protests, and collaborative programs addressing many facets of our community.
In addition, we collaborate on projects that specifically targeted to the LGBTQ community, such as Charlotte's Non-Discrimination Ordinance Coalition, an effort to educate the community on issues surrounding the ordinance, which failed in Spring 2015. The goal of the initative is make people aware of the issues and how trans people, specifically, are targeted. The coalition is also working to get a friendly city council and mayor on board in Fall 2015 to pass the ordinance.
Even if we are not directly involved in an activism activity or event, or don't go as a group, we will always try to make our members aware of what is happening in the community so you can get involved.
